Progressive Technologies

Progressive Technologies Limited was set up to exploit proprietary video streaming technology optimised for operation over narrow bandwidths. Performance of live video transmissions over the internet depends to a large extent on the sustained bandwidth available between the source and the user. Bandwidths across the many links in an internet chain are uncertain and fluctuating and the modest bandwidth continuously available during a typical transmission is a major reason for the poor performance of available video links over the internet.

Enabling Technology

The company has developed 'enabling technology', allowing access to the complete worldwide market for video content - not just the broadband segment. The technology is fully developed and in Beta test with a number of users. Service providers are being encouraged to use the enhanced performance with live, full colour video connections in real time - transmission performance not previously available to the whole worldwide market.

In deploying this new technology, the company was asked to make proposals for body-worn video systems, incorporating a digital wireless link for live video transmission. After providing a technical specification of their requirements to the DDA, following an introduction via an NWDA funded Technology Opportunity Study, they were introduced to relevant experts within the defence science and technology base. The ongoing relationship is opening up the full market potential and helping the development of a fit for purpose system.

Connecting Business to Technology

What do knitting patterns, chocolate digestive biscuits and sewage pipes have in common? The answer is they've all benefited from technology originally developed for defence. The DDA helps commerce and industry including small and medium sized enterprises, sole traders and partnerships, get access to scientific and technical knowledge and expertise through its regionally based technology diversification managers.
